This headstone belonged to a young boy called Thomas and his brother Nicholas Sandry. It is astounding to think that this gravestone is over 160 years old.

Maybe some of the family’s ancestors still live in the village of Breage, or if anyone even knows that they are related to these people of long ago.


The shape of the gravestone has been echoed on the slightly out of focus window arch in the background. This photograph was manipulated by enhancing the contrast and the whole image was then darkened a little so that the writing on the gravestone would by more legible. The tight crop that I had intentionally chose, wills the eye to read the inscription upon the headstone.
