Erosion is the movement of rocks by water, wind, ice or gravity. Ice erosion is caused by movement of ice. Glaciers can scrape down a slope and break up rock and then transport it, leaving moraines, (masses of rocks and sediment) and glacial erratics (rocks that differ from the surrounding rock) in its wake. Ice wedging is the weathering process where water trapped in tiny rock cracks freezes and expands, causing the break-up of the rock.
I love the patterns that can be seen in these rocks. I came across this congregation of pebbles and boulders by accident. The action of the waves have worn the surfaces smooth. The curved diagonal line of the boulders running up through the image, has added balance.
