Since the 11th century, Stare Mesto (Old Town) has been the vibrant hub of the city and the layers of history can be seen and felt in its streets, alleyways and architecture.
The Old Town rose in importance as the home of the Bohemian Royal Family until the 15th century when the Castle became the Royal living quarters.
Many buildings such as protective gateways still stand as reminders of those days.
